EILO WENT TO THE HEART OF EUROPE
29 AND 30 SEPTEMBER
BRUSSELS
inspired by green ideas, each other and wonderful projects
After a three year hiatus due to Covid, EILO was finally able to organise its annual excursion, This time in Brussels. With over 55 participants it was a great turnout and a wonderful occasion to meet colleagues from all over Europe. On Thursday afternoon participants were treated to a symposium filled to the brim with trends in nature & human health relationships, sustainability and circularity, new ways of cooperating and had an insightful and open discussion on how to deal with crises and scarcity. Friday was packed with visits to inspiring green projects.
THE SYMPOSIUM ON THURSDAY 29 SEPTEMBER
VITAMIN G
THE IMPORTANCE OF GREEN SPACE FOR OUR HEALTH
JOLANDA MAAS
Jolanda Maas is associate professor in Clinical Psychology at the Vrije Universiteit (VU) Amsterdam and specialises in nature – human health relationships. She spoke about the vital importance of green spaces for human health and gave insights in the factors that facilitate the implementation of nature based interventions in indoor and outdoor situations. Below almost every slide you find the research that supports her findings.
THE VALUE OF NEW FORMS OF COOPERATION
BART DIJKMAN AND NINA SICKENGA
Bart Dijkman (Koninklijke Ginkel Group) and Nina Sickenga (founder of MOSS Architects) gave an insight into the unique, productive and above all very creative cooperation between their two companies. They showed that they learned from each other, but, more interesting even, that they also created a much more user centered way of cooperating with their clients.
THE FUTURE, NO THE PRESENT IS CIRCULAR
EVY PUELINCKX
Evy Puelinckx is a true advocate for the circular economy. She helps organisations to discover their circular potential and to keep on seeing new opportunities to become more and more circular with all their actions. Her presentation was filled with fresh and innovative ideas to take home.
DISCUSSION ABOUT SCARCITY AND CREATIVITY AND FINANCES
MARIEKE KARSSEN
Of course it is difficult to digest a complex discussion about scarcity, sustainability and creativity, but after the great inspiration delivered by Evy we did talk about the recycling of pots, plant recycling, or how to guide your client along when changes caused by scarcity sometimes seriously alter a project. We are sure that during the drinks and dinner a lot of new ideas were discussed and new sustainable connections were made. And that is an important part of an excursion like this.
the excursions on Friday 30 September
PEAS AND LOVE
A truly inspiring urban agriculture project that contributes to connecting people from the neighbourhood to one another. On this green roof with vertical constructions people grow their fresh vegetables on subscription. A wonderful place to be.
Diamond Building Artificial Greenery
At times, light and water issues do not allow for the growing of live greenery. Here, the type of glass in this building proved to be an issue. But proof too, that it is possible to create a truly lush experience with artificial green.
Indigo hotel Urban Jungle
Green walls and an abundance of plants in a great variety of pots make for a welcoming and warm atmosphere in hotel Indigo. Indoor greenery does not always have to be slick and perfect to create a wonderful experience.
Gare Maritime
A huge old freight station has been transformed to a warm space with lots of wood and greenery. The size of the great hall makes it possible to organise large-scale events year round, with an outdoor feel. The place to be!
Deloitte Indoor Garden
A huge indoor garden with stunning art and greenery of highstanding quality. They perfectly complement this modern, almost industrial building. The beautiful green wall in the coffee corner makes for a perfect spot to relax.
